Tent Day!

Today I told all of my lovely students to bring in a blanket. We then made tents and forts in the classroom for the students to work in. The students loved it and came up with names for their tents. In the afternoon we had a massive tent battle where the students had to throw paper balls everywhere. I could not believe the mess! It was so worth it though and we all had so much fun being a little bit silly.

Crazy Hair Day!

Room 8 is a little bit crazy so we decided to have a crazy hair day. The students who turned up to school with " normal hair" were quickly attacked with hair ties and rubber bands until we were all looking perfectly crazy and weird(just the way Miss Buchanan likes it!).

Warren Pohatu visits PIHA!

This term Piha is looking at New Zealand art, focusing on artist Warren Pohatu. We were so lucky to be able to have him come into our classroom and show us his art and explain how he created it. The students got to have a go at exploring with colors and different techniques to create their own Warren Pohatu Artwork.

Our new furniture!

Room 8 has been lucky enough to get brand new furniture for our classroom. This new furniture allows the children to choose how they will work and caters for different learning needs. I am so impressed with how well the children have been using and respecting the furniture!

Let the drama begin!

Today the students began brainstorming ideas for their group productions. They could do it on anything they wanted...which made it very hard for them to decide and agree upon one idea! I am super excited to see the students follow the process of making their own productions.

Drama Presents American Idol

"Lights, camera, action!" Miss Buchanan says as I walk on stage/

front of class. "This, is American Idol!" I say to the audience.

Then the music starts. Fire-flies, I think in my head. 21 seconds

has past, start talking Lana, I think to my self. Hi I am Ryan

Seacreast and I will be your host for tonight. My group is

Lauryn, Samantha, Paige, Colleen and I. Our last song comes on.

Baby, baby, baby oh! Then I dance, "Ha ha ha ha!" everyone starts

laughing. A light flashes in my eyes, finally! The movie has stopped.

We all bow while ht audience claps. We sit down. "That was fun!"

My group and I say. Then the next group go's on the stage.

Rm8 did a performance in front of Rm COOL!
our were one was based on the vodafone ad.
It was freaky for all of us we were all lucky that we didn't need to perform in front of the whole school! We all had butterflies in our tummy but at the same time it was fun. Mavie says'' it was really really fun and even though we made a mistake it still was fun''!

Room8 Drama ^_^

For the last 2 weeks room8 has been learning about scripts.

Then we split into groups and made our own.

After that, we performed it in front of room8.

IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!

Everybody loved it.

Our play was about STAR WARS E.P 3 we did the scene when Anakin and Obi-wan atempet to rescue the Chanceler but are attacked by Count Dooku we used meter rulers as lightsabers Matt was Anakin Cameron was Obi-wan Kevin was Count Dooku And Harrison was a super battle droid

Drama Drama Drama!!! For the last two weeks students have been working on writing a script based on a scene from tv or a movie. This week the students got to perform their scripts and they were BRILLIANT!

our play was Garfield we loved working with new people that was we loved the most.

chairs Chairs CHAIRS!

On Thursday the 27th of May, we played a game called chairs.
What we did was we put 4 chairs in front of the class and then
Miss Buchanan picked 4 people to stand up next to the chairs in a line.
The 1st person had to do something with the first chair and then Miss Buchanan
said change so the 1st person had to move to the second chair and the 2nd
person in the line had to go on the 1st chair. Then when Miss Buchanan said
change for the 2nd time, the 3rd person had to go on the 1st chair and the
2nd person had to go on the 2nd chair and the 1st person had to go on the
3rd chair. Then the 4th person had to go up and everyone would move along.
They would keep going until there were no more people on any of the chairs.
The thing some people would do is watch T.V acting bored.
Other people might pretend they are riding on a horse or they are on a wild
roller coaster. Room 8 all had so much fun doing it and they were all great.

Gun Yung/ Jarod made a grand entrance to room 8. Jarod made the costume as part of his reading programme. He walked the cat walk like no one had ever walked it before!

Cross Country!

Pump,pump and pump!

I wake up with a jolt,my mind racing and my heart is pounding.

One thing flashes in my brain CROSS COUNTRY.

In what felt like ten minutes I was cheering my heart out to little kids at our annual Summerland Cross Country.

A while later which seemed like hours,the ten year old girls had finished stretching and were standing at the starting line feeling nervous,excited and very determined.

Seeing all the coloured tee-shirts and waiting for Miss Davies to set the clapper.

It sounded and we shot off pushing,shoving and with lots of giggles.

We ran past many teachers and loads of parents who all encouraged us with cries of, "Good girls,keep going,clap,clap,clap"

After three times around the course I sprinted down the pathway of fame.

Mrs Van Gills wrote the number 5 on my hand.

Everyone at summerland did very well and should be proud of themselves.

What an awesome event.
